The mayor of Badalona (Barcelonès Nord), Xavier Garcia Albiol, accompanied by the third deputy mayor and councilor for Territory and Sustainability, Daniel Gracia, held a meeting this morning in Madrid with the president of Adif (Administrator of Railway Infrastructures ) María Luisa Domínguez González, with the aim of making it possible for the construction works of the railway viaduct planned over the Badalona port channel, between Ponent and Tortosa streets, to be carried out before the end of this year.
The construction of this 180 meter long viaduct will allow the continuity of the railway line, saving the new Badalona canal, as well as improving the connection of the port and the seafront with the rest of the city. The construction of this viaduct and the roundabout connecting Ponent Street with Eduard Maristany are key to completing the entire 350 meters of the water channel that enters the urban fabric, being as a whole the most important work. since the construction of the port in 2003.
During the meeting, the execution of the agreement of December 26, 2022 between Adif, Badalona City Council and Marina Badalona was monitored and assessed with the commitment to make it possible before the end of the year to address the final and most complex part that is the construction of the viaduct of the Barcelona-Mataró-Maçanet-Massanes railway line over the future canal of the Port of Badalona.
The mayor of Badalona, Xavier Garcia Albiol, highlighted that: “we have found very good disposition on the part of the president of Adif and her team and they have conveyed to us their commitment to approve the project presented by Marina Badalona and make it possible for "Let the work on the new viaduct begin at the end of the year." The mayor added that "with the viaduct we will put an end to one of the most important works of transformation of the city, a work that will allow the completion of the 350 Gorg canal and will allow the people of Badalona to enjoy a large urban boulevard that will open on the coast.”
According to the agreement between Adif, the City Council and Marina Badalona, the execution of the works on the railway viaduct over the Port of Badalona canal represents an investment of 18.8 million euros, of which Marina Badalona contributes 10.5, the City Council of Badalona 4.9 and Adif 3.3. The same agreement contemplates a Monitoring Commission made up of two representatives from each of the three parties. On March 31, the Board of Directors of Marina Badalona approved awarding these works to the Comsa-Dragados Temporary Business Union (UTE).
