Bad weather conditions force sprint race in Australia to be canceled

Australia's MotoGP sprint race at Phillip Island has been canceled due to "weather conditions and forecasts", organizers announced on Sunday.

The sprint was originally going to be held on Saturday but was changed to the full distance event after extreme wind and rain was forecast for Sunday, the first time a race has been postponed since the Dutch Grand Prix in 2015.

Pramac Racing's Johann Zarco won Saturday's Australian Grand Prix, his first victory in a MotoGP race in almost seven years in the premier class.

The cancellation leaves Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia's 27-point lead in the Jorge Martín Championship race intact, heading into the Thai GP on October 29.
