Azcón warns Ribera that there are no “first or second-class droughts”

The president of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, described as “logical” the decision adopted between the central government and the Catalan Generalitat so that desalinated water can be brought in boats from Sagunt and a transfer from the Ebro river is ruled out, a possibility that is frontally opposed. Even so, he demanded that the Minister of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, treat Aragón “with the same speed” as that given to its neighboring community to solve the problems of water scarcity, since there are no “first and second-class droughts.” ”.

Before meeting with the PP-Aragón executive to evaluate his first six months in office, Azcón pointed out that the two desalination plants planned to meet the demand of the metropolitan area of Barcelona between 2028 and 2029 will be undertaken by the State with “ nothing more and nothing less” than 470 million euros.

In this sense, he described it as “fantastic” that in the “first meeting” with the Minister of Climate Action, David Mascort, that amount was committed, “which could be almost all the money from the general budgets of the State destined for Aragon in a year”, but that now it is his turn to agree on the problems of the community he governs.

“What cannot be is that (the) Yesa reservoir is delayed until 2030. It cannot be that the works that we need in Aragon and that are related to water, year after year, are delayed and we see that there are droughts of first and second,” he stressed.

The Aragonese president also pointed out that due to the lack of water, 1.5 billion euros were lost last year in the Aragonese countryside. For this reason, he reiterated his request from last week to hold a meeting with the minister in which to explain the drought problems that the community is going through and find out what works are going to be undertaken to solve them.

“I am glad that they have been able to agree on the problems of Catalonia, but now it is time to agree on the drought problems that we have in Aragon,” he added.
