I share in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos this series of photographs captured during a match at the Palamós Club de Futbol stadium.
I was there the other day and I noticed that, on the door, there was a mosaic of the team's shield with the following phrase: "Dean club of Catalan football. Founded in 1898."
I looked for information and it turns out that it is the oldest football team in all of Catalonia, which is why it is our oldest team in Catalan football.
It was founded by Gaspar Matas i Danès, after returning from his studies in the United Kingdom, with the name Palamós Foot-Ball Club. The team has subsequently had several names, the last and current name being Palamós Club de Futbol since 1974.
His first match was at the Palamós-Fábrica Armstrong in Palafrugell, in 1898, and he beat Palamós 2 to 1. His best period was between 1980 and 1990 when he played six seasons in the Second Division A and won a Generalitat Cup in the 1991-1992 season. Its yellow and blue colors are part of the sporting history of Catalonia.
