At least six dead when Russia bombs the university and the Chernihiv theater

The Ukrainian authorities have reported this Saturday a new Russian missile bombardment in the center of the city of Chernihiv, in the north of the country, with a provisional balance of five dead and 37 injured -11 of them children.

This has been confirmed by the Ministry of the Interior, adding that the civilian population was going to the church to celebrate a religious festival when the attack took place.

"All the emergency services are working on the scene. Unfortunately there is information about deaths," sources from the mayor's office reported through Telegram.

The projectiles have impacted the university and a theater in Chernihiv, as reported by the country's president, Volodímir Zelenski, through his X account -formerly twitter-.

"This is what it means to live close to a terrorist state," wrote the Ukrainian leader, who shortly before had announced through the same means his arrival in Sweden, where he plans to meet with his prime minister, Ulf Kristersson, and with King Carlos Gustavo.

A short video accompanying Zelenski's post shows debris scattered across a square in front of what appeared to be the regional theater, where parked cars show considerable damage. In one of them you can see the bent body of one of the victims.

"I urge the world to confront Russian terrorism. Provide Ukraine with additional tools to safeguard life. For life to win, Russia must lose this war," the Ukrainian president stressed.
