At least five dead after a Russian missile attack on a building in eastern Ukraine

At least five people died and more than thirty were injured as a result of a Russian attack with two missiles against an apartment building in the Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk, in the eastern Donetsk region, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry reported on Monday.

"Five people died. The collection of debris continues," said the Ukrainian Interior Minister, Igor Klimenko, quoted by the UNIAN agency. The attacks took place between around 9:00 p.m. and 9:50 p.m. local time.

According to the head of the Interior, 31 people were injured, "including 19 police officers, 5 emergency rescuers and a minor."

The head of the Donetsk regional military administration, Pavlo Kirilenko, indicated that there were two attacks with an interval of "several tens of minutes".

"They damaged nine and five-story buildings, several houses, a hotel, shops, administrative buildings," he said, warning of the possibility of new attacks, and recommended that the population go to shelters.

The President of Ukraine, Volodímir Zelenski, denounced that Russia "tries to leave Donetsk turned into ruins and charred stones."

"Two missiles. An impact on a residential house. Unfortunately there are victims," he said on Telegram.

"It is necessary to stop Russian terror. All those who fight for the freedom of Ukraine save human lives. All those in the world who help Ukraine will defeat the terrorists together with us. Russia will answer for everything it has done in this horrible war," he added.
