Arrested in Ibiza for a film theft with a loot of 66 million in jewels and diamonds

Agents of the National Police have arrested in Ibiza a fugitive from the Netherlands who was wanted for a robbery valued at almost 67 million euros in jewels and diamonds after a notorious heist perpetrated in 2005 at Schipol airport. , in Amsterdam. The robbery is one of the biggest coups in history due to the importance of the loot.

A group of thieves disguised as terminal workers attacked a KLM airline cargo vehicle carrying a shipment of diamonds valued at 66 million euros. The jewels that were looted with threats and violence had to be loaded on a plane to Antwerp, in the north of neighboring Belgium.

Seven people had already been arrested in 2017 between Spain and the Netherlands for this same robbery. Part of the diamonds were recovered immediately, but another part remained to be discovered and is still being searched.

This week, 18 years after the notorious robbery, one of the participants in the robbery was arrested in Ibiza, a fugitive who had a European arrest and surrender warrant issued by the Netherlands for robbery with violence and intimidation. The perpetrators of the robbery used firearms and used great violence against their victims to perpetrate the events.

The National Police reports that the investigation began in November 2023, from the Netherlands the Fugitive Location Section was informed that a fugitive could be found on the island of Ibiza for whom there was an arrest warrant and immediate surrender in force, issued by the Netherlands, for robbery with violence and intimidation using a firearm.

From that moment on, investigators focused their efforts on locating the suspect, so agents from the Fugitive Location Section moved to Ibiza. After an exhaustive search, he was located in a villa on the island and, finally, on Tuesday he left the home aboard a vehicle in which he was the co-pilot.

After several kilometers of following, the agents stopped the vehicle and blocked its path with three vehicles. The researchers observed his great physical change compared to the photographs available to the National Police agents.

The arrested person had a much more youthful and thinner appearance, so they do not rule out the possibility that he had undergone some cosmetic touches to change his appearance and not be easily recognized. Once arrested, he was placed at the disposal of the Central Investigative Court number 6 of the National Court.
