Arrested for selling nitrous oxide to inhale at the Palafrugell festival

The Local Police of Palafrugell (Baix Empordà) has arrested a man for a crime against public health for selling nitrous oxide to inhale. During the municipality's Festival, the agents detected that its use was proliferating among the youth of the municipality. During these days, they located and removed about thirty bottles containing this substance. As a result, they opened an investigation to find out who was behind the distribution of this substance. The agents ended up identifying the detainee with a 3.9-kilo bottle of nitrous oxide, along with a whole series of items intended for consumption, such as pink dispensers and a balloon.

As reported by the City Council in a statement, this line of investigation has made it possible to intercept the sale of nitrous oxide to a young man from the town by the detainee, who was arrested this Friday. The operation has also resulted in the discovery of a total of 33 bottles, in addition to the necessary elements for their sale (balloon and inflation cannulas).

The police warn that inhaling this type of gas can be dangerous due to its toxicity. The gas is commonly used as a euphoriant despite the dangers inherent in its abuse by inhalation. Adverse effects include dizziness, loss of consciousness, hypoxia asphyxia, psychosis, or even fatal consequences. Inhalation of the gas also moderates brain activity and bodily responses, especially dangerous if driving. Its prolonged use can cause brain and neurological damage.

The police urge young people not to consume these types of gases and ask for the collaboration of citizens so that, in case of detecting cases, they contact the local police.
