Aragonès rethinks the dialogue table and stops limiting it to members of the Government

“We have to be able to draw a new stage in which those who agree on what and how (...) can share space and side at the negotiating table.” In a context in which the investiture of Pedro Sánchez is under discussion in exchange for an amnesty, Pere Aragonès proposed to Junts the rethinking of the dialogue table so that it is no longer represented solely by members of the Government.

The president and Esquerra are working hard to get Junts to agree to the joint negotiation before the PSOE, not only to agree on the points that the socialist leader would have to assume if he wants to run for re-election as president of the Government, but also so that later , if the new legislature is guided by the socialists and Sumar, continue negotiating together in order to achieve “decided progress towards self-determination”, in the words now of the president of the ERC parliamentary group, Josep Maria Jové.

“For my part it won't be left. It's not about who. If we agree on the what and the how, let's not get stuck on the who. It's not worth it,” said the head of the Catalan Executive.

In fact, what Aragonès did yesterday during the general policy debate in Parliament was to make official a statement that had already been made by the spokesperson for the Republicans in Congress, Teresa Jordà, on September 13. Then, the leader opened the door for Carles Puigdemont to be part of this table. The statement was covered up by Jordà's agreement to endorse an investiture of Sánchez with only a schedule for the approval of the amnesty. Laura Vilagrà, Minister of the Presidency, rectified her statements the next day.

This change in position is important if you take into account that it was an important point of clash with Junts. The president denied the entry of Jordi Turull and Jordi Sànchez into this space for dialogue because they were not members of the Government.

However, it is one more gesture of approximation from ERC to JxCat that seems doomed to failure. The post-convergents do not believe in a table that the Republicans managed to be formed in exchange for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez in 2020. The icing on the cake: while Aragonès extended his hand to Junts yesterday, those of Laura Borràs and Jordi Turull registered in the Parliament a proposed resolution with which it will force a vote that "the lack of confidence of a parliamentary majority persists in relation to the current Government chaired by President Pere Aragonès." The PSC presents one with the same terms, so the reproach has the possibility of progressing and the context of the investiture in Madrid would be clouded.

Be that as it may, ERC also presented its resolution proposals yesterday. Jové made a preview in his speech yesterday in the Parliament, with the same “take note” that Aragonès used the day before to address Sánchez: “We want to make it very clear that there will only be an investiture and legislature in Madrid if there is a real, clear will. and accredited with the resolution of the political conflict between Catalonia and the State. And that is achieved with amnesty, decisive advances towards self-determination and improvements in the well-being of citizens.”

Among the twenty texts that it registered yesterday, ERC emphasizes these claims, denounces a fiscal deficit of 22,000 million euros and demands the complete transfer of Rodalies.
