Antonio Banderas on his role in Indiana Jones: "It's almost a cameo"

Some time ago it came to light that Antonio Banderas would be part of the cast of the new Indiana Jones movie. However, few details had come to light about the role that the man from Malaga would play in the fifth installment of the saga. Now, it has been the actor himself who has shed some light in an interview with the specialized media Collider.

"My role is very small, almost a cameo. It's just a friend of Indiana Jones who he looks for because he needs something from him in the plot. My appearance lasts a very short time," Banderas specified, adding that he is also "very happy" to to be part of a saga that "is already film history".

Banderas took the opportunity to dedicate good words to his set partner, Harrison Ford, as he assured that he is "a gentleman on and off the set." "I have to say that I had a great time with him. I shared a few dinners and a little time together."

The film, which will be released in June 2023 and which at the moment does not have an official title, marks the return of Harrison Ford to one of his most iconic roles, that of the mythical archaeologist who locates objects of great historical relevance, such as the Ark of the Alliance or the Holy Grail. Along with both actors, the film will also star Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the creator of the hit series Fleabag.

At the moment, the plot of the film is unknown, the first in the saga that will not be directed by Steven Spielberg. The person in charge of taking the production forward this time will be James Mangold. Who will repeat in his position will be the composer John Williams, who already advanced one of the songs from the soundtrack, Helena's Theme, in September.

Fans of the saga are expecting as this will be the last adventure of Indiana Jones on the big screen. However, the Disney platform announced that it is working on a parallel series based on Helena, the archaeologist's goddaughter, who would take over as the new protagonist.
