An impeccable Alcaraz beats Kecmanovic and goes to the quarterfinals

Carlos Álcaraz heads straight to the quarterfinals, where he will face Alexander Zverev (6). The world number 2 played a peaceful match against a powerless but competitive Miomir Kecmanovic (55) and sealed the fourth round of the Australian Open with a victory (6-4, 6-4, 6-0) in a match of one hour and 49 minutes.

The Spaniard, who reached the round of 16 after Chinese Juncheng Shang withdrew due to a right thigh injury, had met Kecmanovic only once officially. More specifically, in the 2022 Miami ATP quarterfinals, where Alcaraz also won 6-7, 6-3, 7-6.

The one from El Palmar has once again shown his high level in the reunion. Alcaraz has not missed any opportunity and in the third game he has achieved a break with which to take the lead from the beginning of the match. The Serbian has been tough, but he has been below the Murcian who won the first set.

The Spaniard has not forgiven either in the second set with which he has left the match very much on track. However, it was in the third race when Alcaraz passed well above his rival. The Murcian tennis player got the break in the first game and Kecmanovic lowered his level a little due to accumulated fatigue. Carlitos has taken advantage of the circumstance by giving a great display, with very few errors, and a high level of aggressiveness.

The Murcian finished the match with five direct serves, 83% of points with first serves, 43 winners and 19 unforced errors. "I think I've done everything right," he commented to an audience that was made to smile by his innocent sincerity.

Alcaraz will return to the Rod Laver Arena this Wednesday to play the quarterfinals against Zverev and will have the opportunity to equalize an unfavorable head to head (3-4). "I will have my opportunities if I continue playing like this. He has played long five-set matches. It will be difficult for him physically," Alcaraz said.
