An elderly woman dies in her room in a fire in a residence in Asturias

At least one woman has died and another 27 people have been injured in a fire that took place this morning in a nursing home in the council of Siero (Asturias). As reported by Emergencies 112, the deceased resident has been located in her room, located on the first floor of a three-story building, the area most affected by the flames.

When the firefighters arrived, the fire was very developed on the first floor, so they confined the residents - a total of 74 - and workers until they managed to extinguish the fire and proceed with the evacuation. This is the Palacio de Leceñes residence, in Valdesoto (Siero), according to El Comercio.

The injured are affected by smoke inhalation, the most serious being a 46-year-old worker who has been transferred with a serious prognosis to the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA) in Oviedo.

The fire started around one in the morning in a room due to circumstances that have not been identified, according to La Nueva España, which indicates that the people who occupied it and the worker who attended to them at first are the ones who were the worst off of the Sinister.

"When the first fire teams arrived, the fire was already well developed on the first floor. Specifically, in a room where there was a lot of fire and where the deceased was later located," 112 Asturias said in a statement. "Until the evacuation could begin, the residents and workers who were in the construction were confined while the fire was extinguished. With self-contained breathing equipment, thermal imaging cameras and positive pressure generators, the fire was managed. did not advance to the rest of the dependencies and finally became extinct," he adds.

Once controlled and extinguished, while searching the different floors the firefighters located, near one of the elevators, the worker who was evacuated in serious condition.

The emergency services have transferred two people to the same hospital, and a third to the Cabueñes Hospital, Gijón. The other injured have been evacuated with a mild prognosis to different hospital centers.
