An alternative energy model to curb climate change and its high economic cost

No alternative. Today more than ever, our society requires a more sustainable energy model that is capable of reversing our carbon footprint, that stops damaging family economies and prevents the continuation of the increase in inflation in much of the developed world. Never before in all of history, turning on the heating, putting on a washing machine or filling the tank of our vehicle had been so expensive.

Despite all the efforts of the industry, the citizenry as a whole and the great steps taken towards a more sustainable energy transition system, our dependence on fossil energy continues to compromise our progress towards reversing climate change and, therefore, what not to say, the continuity of our economic model.

It is for all these reasons that finding a more efficient form of production and consumption has become a first-level need that is already on practically all the agendas of the world's main governments. In this sense, in the next dialogue table of La Vanguardia Talks it will be considered what type of energy sources will be the majority in the future and which will be the most suitable for each type of need in all its environments; such as domestic consumption, public and private transport or industrial energy.

How could it be otherwise, La Vanguardia will feature authorized personalities for this informative event to analyze the future of the sector. In this way, the journalist and deputy director of the newspaper, Enric Sierra, will ask the participants what challenges our country must face to achieve energy renewal.

Those who will answer that question will be Matthew Griffin, futurist disseminator, expert in technology and energy; Pep Salas, advisor to the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) and director of Smartgrid.cat; Esther Izquierdo, consultant for sustainable energy and energy efficiency and president of the Clúster de l'Energia Eficient de Catalunya and Narcís de Carreras, CEO of Nedgia.

Matthew Griffin will focus the debate highlighting the problems of climate change and the need to take advantage of technology of all kinds possible to transform the world of energy.

The disseminator will be able to put into context the importance of the transition in a world with sustainability problems and will describe the technologies that will enhance the change and the speed at which this will occur. Griffin, with his unique and exciting style of communication, will provide a macro view of the importance of change, as well as the global challenges in general and Spain in particular.

Pep Salas, from his point of view as adviser to the Spanish energy regulator, will specify the closest challenges in Catalonia and the rest of Spain, also within a general vision.

The consultant, Esther Izquierdo, will present the initiatives that are already being carried out today to update the model and how we are substituting energy consumption to move towards a more responsible system.

The challenges of the energy transition, the title of the next edition of La Vanguardia Talks, will be held next Monday, June 16 at 9 a.m. at the Círculo Ecuestre in Barcelona. Anyone who wants to can follow it live from this emblematic headquarters of the entity on Diagonal, as it is a limited forum, they must send their request to lavanguardiatalks@lavanguardia.es or from home, through the streaming that will be enabled on the page Vanguard website.
