Promises are kept and if, to do so, you have to bring a little piece of Valencia to Madrid, then bring it. The mayor of the capital, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, gave his word in 2022 that he would organize a mascletà if the then PP candidate for Valencia City Council, María José Catalá, was elected mayor after the 28-M elections. And this Monday, after the first municipal Government Board of the legislature, he has reiterated his commitment.
"I already said it, and of course we are going to fulfill that commitment. It is a good way to strengthen relations between Madrid and Valencia," he argued.
Almeida has extolled that Madrid is the capital of Spain and, therefore, "we are open to the entire national territory". "Practically every day, we receive countless activities from other places," he added.
The mayor of the capital predicted that the people of Madrid would like the mascletà a lot and considered that "it will make us people of Madrid go even more than we already go to Valencia".
Almeida made his promise during a trip to the capital of the Turia where, after the list of eventful inaugurations that he treasures, he was asked if he would dare to throw a firecracker himself. And, between laughs, he replied that "it will depend on how much press there is in front and the cameras that may be there." "But hey, nothing would happen either: because I throw a firecracker the city will not fall... Or yes," he added with a rebuke.
And he added, "I can't hide it either, if I didn't do the things I do, I didn't break what I break and I didn't throw myself where I don't have to throw these things, they wouldn't happen to me", in reference to the shots, broken blinds or falls of trampolines that appear in his curriculum of openings.
