Alicante-Elche airport exceeds one million passengers for the first time in February

Alicante-Elche airport exceeds one million passengers for the first time in February

The Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport closed February with 1,002,310 registered passengers, which means breaking a new record and exceeding one million travelers during the month of February for the first time in history.

This is an increase of 26.8% compared to the same month in 2023, a figure contributed to by the fact that 2024 is a leap year and therefore the month has had one more day. It is the largest proportional increase among the 20 largest airports in Spain.

International passengers continue to stand out for their upward evolution in traffic and contribute with 849,443 travelers, which represents an increase of 28.4%. National traffic also maintains a significant percentage increase and registers 152,042 passengers, which represents an increase of 18.4%.

Regarding nationalities, the countries that contributed the most passengers in February 2024 were the United Kingdom, with 335,411 travelers, followed by the Netherlands, with 76,245; Poland, with 60,125; Belgium, with 58,032; and Germany, with 54,646.

The Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández airport handled a total of 1,960,398 passengers during the first two months of the year, this implies a growth of 23.6% compared to the same period in 2023. In relation to operations, from January to February Alicante's infrastructure operated a total of 12,839 flights, 19.9% ​​more than in the same months of the previous year.

For its part, Valencia airport has also recorded the best February in its history with 648,974 passengers, which represents an increase of 16.8% compared to the same month of the previous year. Of the total number of travelers counted in February, 459,441 traveled on international flights, 18.4% more than in February 2023; while 187,958 did so on domestic flights, 12.8% more.

Regarding the main origins and destinations of international passengers registered in February, the most numerous were those from origin/destination Italy, which totaled 99,321 travelers; followed by Germany, with 54,072; Netherlands, with 51,556; France, with 51,141; United Kingdom, with 51,123, and Belgium, with 21,848.

On the other hand, Valencia Airport handled a total of 1,303,428 passengers during the first two months of the year, this implies a growth of 14.1% compared to the same period in 2023. In relation to operations, from January to February The Valencian infrastructure operated a total of 11,234 flights, 8.4% more than in the same months of the previous year.
