Agreement between Hamas and Israel to distribute medicines in Gaza

In the fourth month of war in Gaza, more than 100 days after the start of the conflict, far from the November truce, a new agreement between Hamas and Israel is confirmed by the Qatari government. The purpose is to bring humanitarian aid and medicine to the population of the strip as well as to the hostages still in captivity.

The medicines and humanitarian aid are expected to leave Doha tomorrow aboard two Qatari Armed Forces planes bound for the Egyptian city of El Arish, which borders the Palestinian enclave. There are no further details on how they will be distributed.

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed bin Mohamed al Ansari announced the agreement late this afternoon. He also added that “France has also contributed to the success of this mediation.” In this way, Paris assumes a relevant role in the conversations alongside the Arab country, the United States and Egypt.

The measure, however, was advanced days ago by the Israeli Prime Minister, Beniamin Netanyahu, but giving only the reference of an agreement to bring medicine to the Israelis kidnapped by Hamas in the October 7 attack. Then there were no more details. Nor were the counterparts indicated.

The agreement confirms that the talks continue despite the attack in the north of Tel Aviv yesterday, the confirmation of the death of two hostages in captivity of the 136 that Israel indicates that Hamas still holds, and that there are already more than 23,000 dead in Gaza due to the Israeli army offensive, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. More than 150 in the last 24 hours.
