A year ago it snowed where today there is only drought

Today, in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos, I would like to write about a very special day, meteorologically very entertaining. It was January 24th, exactly one year ago.

A weekday where we were able to see snow fall in pre-coastal towns, such as Sant Celoni, in the Vallès Oriental, where I was able to capture these photographs that I show as a souvenir, also taking into account the radiant day we have today, when we live immersed in a winter very hot and dry.

On the contrary, on January 24 a year ago, the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya activated some warnings due to the risk of snow at just 200 meters above sea level.

These warnings were activated for the central, coastal and pre-coastal areas of Catalonia. During the morning and midday, snow was seen in Sant Celoni, a town that is at an altitude of only 152 meters from the sea.

But in addition to Sant Celoni, you can also see snow falling in towns like Granollers, Sabadell, in the Collserola area, in Mura...

As for figures, the snow records were anecdotal and, starting in the afternoon, the snow level rose above 700 meters. By then there was no trace left in Sant Celoni, only photographs like these to remember.

Although anecdotal, this episode was very beautiful because it was close to snowing at ground level. We woke up with half a finger of snow in some streets of Sant Celoni and we could see the highest parts of Montnegre sprinkled with white. That was a year ago today.
