Puigdemont wants companies to get involved so that newcomers can learn Catalan

To approve the first decrees of the Government of Pedro Sánchez, which contained the anti-crisis package of the coalition Executive, Junts agreed last January with the PSOE on the delegation of powers in matters of immigration to the Government of the Generalitat, as provided for by the article 150.2 of the Constitution, through an organic law. The formation of Carles Puigdemont, who already put this issue on the table when he outlined the conditions for the investiture pact last September, assures that it already has a proposed organic law ready that it will make public after the May 12 elections. and includes some references in its electoral program.

The JxCat candidate revealed today, in a press conference organized by the Efe agency, that among the measures they ask for includes “holding co-responsibility” on companies for newcomers to learn Catalan since it is a right. collected by law. “The companies that are going to look for the labor must be held jointly responsible. "They cannot ignore a responsibility that affects a fundamental right such as the linguistic option, recognized by law."

“We cannot exempt anyone, whether recently arrived or from I don't know how many generations of Catalan, from compliance with the law. The right of linguistic choice is provided for by law and a citizen of Catalonia has every right in the world to be served in Catalan," said Puigdemont, who added that it is necessary to "reverse" the fact that there are workers who "cannot guarantee that right because they have not had access to knowledge of Catalan because they have not gone to courses or because their company does not give a damn about that.”

Likewise, the former Catalan president has stressed that this obligation should not be "loaded" on the newcomer's "free time", "which is an obligation of the company." "Therefore, we will have to talk to companies, because language skills are part, as in other countries, of a worker's professional itinerary and professional curriculum." “It does not have to be left to the will of the newly arrived person, many have it and do not have access because the offer of places is very low,” Puigdemont insisted. “It is not a problem of attitude, although there is a minority that does, we have already seen it in the past, for the majority it is not a problem,” he added.

Without leaving aside this issue, Puigdemont has also spoken about the profiles of the people who arrive and has assured that Catalonia “needs immigration.” “We know that we need immigration and the speeches of zero immigration are not based on any reason or on any realism,” said the Poconvergent leader, who affirms that “the Spanish State's management of migratory flows has not been not even remotely the correct one.” “We have a paradox: there are many people who do not have jobs and companies that lack labor. But the profiles don't match. The profile of the labor demand does not match the profile of many people who do not have a job, many of them certainly come from abroad,” the independence leader detailed.

In that sense, he pointed out that the issue of profiles is “important” taking into account that his idea is to “guide the economic policy” of Catalonia in the coming years towards “a reindustrialization based on high added value industry.”

“There are many other concepts that enter into rights and duties and into management itself, which benefit everyone,” continued the Junts candidate, who believes that social cohesion “has not finished working” due to the lack competitions. “The country has to improve in social cohesion and since we are a dynamic, attractive country, with one of the lowest birth rates in the world and it is a country that wants to survive, now we have to deal with immigration for many years. It is a global phenomenon to which Catalonia is no stranger and to which it cannot be oblivious,” he remarked. “What we are saying is that we need Catalan politics and a Catalan view of what we need because the figures in Catalonia are not the same as in the rest of the autonomous communities, therefore the policies cannot be the same,” Puigdemont concluded.

In another vein, the former president has reproached the PSC candidate, Salvador Illa, for giving support to Aliança Catalana. "It seems that Mr. Illa has a lot of interest, coincidentally, in talking about a supposedly pro-independence candidacy about which we only hear about immigration and that's it," the post-convergent noted. “He is very interested, I am not, it is a sign of irresponsibility and nervousness to try to encourage what he believes is the division of a sector of the independence movement,” continued Puigdemont, who reiterated that JxCat will not agree “directly or indirectly.” ” with the formation of Sílvia Orriols nor “any formation that is in the outskirts.”
