A woman suffers burns on 40% of her body while trying to put out a fire in her house

A woman in her 90s suffered burns on 40% of her body surface when she tried to put out a fire yesterday in a room of her home, in the Madrid district of Hortaleza.

As reported by Emergencies Madrid, the fire broke out around four-thirty in the afternoon on the seventh floor of the building located at number 8 Virgilia Street.

The woman tried to put out the fire with water, at which point she suffered serious burns on a large part of her body surface, especially on her face, arms and back.

The Madrid City Council Firefighters rescued the elderly woman, who was on the seventh floor landing, and took her down to the street so that she could be treated by Samur-Civil Protection.

After being stabilized and intubated, the Samur health workers took the nonagenarian in very serious condition to the La Paz hospital. The health workers have also treated a neighbor who had an anxiety attack.

Firefighters extinguished the fire quickly and ventilated the apartment, as smoke had spread through the rooms.

The fire has not affected the rest of the building nor has it affected more people, since the woman was alone in the house.

Agents from the National Police and the Municipal Police of Madrid have collaborated in the rescue.
