A visitor to the Louvre throws a cake at La Gioconda

A visitor who was this Sunday at the Parisian Louvre museum has thrown a cake at the famous 'Gioconda' by Leonardo da Vinci, one of the most important paintings in the gallery. The act of vandalism has been highly commented on social networks.

The work has not been damaged, since it is protected with a large glass through which you can see the smile of the also called Monna Lisa. According to testimonies from several of those present at the scene, a man who was in a wheelchair and disguised in a wig, got up and threw the oil pastel, smearing it and throwing rose petals around him. The security agents acted immediately and expelled the author of the attack. This attack is not the first suffered by the painting. in 1956 a man attacked the painting with acid, damaging its lower part. That same year, Da Vinci's work was again attacked by a Bolivian painter who threw a stone at the oil painting, slightly damaging it. In 1911 the painting was stolen and remained hidden for two years. During that time the thief hid the painting in his house and it was discovered when he tried to sell it to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
