A US report points to the leak of a Chinese laboratory as the probable origin of Covid-19

An intelligence report, specifically from the US Department of Energy, would reveal that the Covid virus probably spread due to a mishap in a Chinese laboratory, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported this Sunday. The classified report would have been forwarded to both the White House and key members of Congress.

Previously, the Department of Energy had been undecided about the source of the virus's spread. The conclusion stems from the new investigation, so the department issued its claim with "low confidence," according to people who read the classified report.

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said Sunday that there are "a range of views" in the US intelligence community on whether the virus originated naturally or in a laboratory. and that he "can neither confirm nor deny" the Wall Street Journal report.

President Joe Biden has asked the US National Laboratories, which is part of the Department of Energy, to be part of the assessment, Sullivan said on CNN's "State of the Union." “And if we get more knowledge or information, we'll share it with Congress and we'll share it with the American people,” he said. "But, at this time, no definitive answer has emerged from the intelligence community on this question."

China has long responded to any suggestion that the Covid-19 virus originated in a laboratory. The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to the barrage of questions that came in outside of normal business hours.
