A two-euro coin dedicated to Ukraine and freedom is already in circulation since Tuesday. It has been issued by the Bank of Estonia and is entered into the system through financial institutions and businesses in the Baltic country. From here, it is expected to circulate throughout Europe.
Specifically, the Bank of Estonia has put two million of these special coins into circulation which, in the words of the bank's governor, Madis Müller, "serves to remind people that freedom is a precious value and has a very high price ".
"Ukraine is waging a war that is costing the lives of its own people for the shared values of the European space," continues Müller. "It is up to us to continue supporting them in their cause," he settles.
The two-euro coin dedicated to Ukraine and freedom was designed by Daria Titova, a young refugee from Kharkiv studying at the Estonian Academy of Arts, and features the phrase Slava Ukraini – glory to Ukraine, in Ukrainian – and shows a girl protecting a bird with her hands, as a symbol of tenderness. Along with this, the design also includes an ear of wheat, a very common crop in Ukraine.
In addition to the two million coins in circulation, the Bank of Estonia also offers a coincard – the coin, distributed in special packaging – for charity, as its proceeds will be sent to Ukraine.
At a price of 18 euros, 40,000 coincards have been put up for sale, of which more than 30,000 have already been sold to buyers around the world, according to the Bank of Estonia, which also reports that it has already made a first donation of 350,000 euros to Ukraine.
