A terrace overlooking the Susterris strait

We have found a very quiet place, with a small table and chairs, to contemplate and capture these images of the Sant Antoni reservoir, in Talarn, a swamp that drinks from the Noguera Pallaresa river.

The dam is located in the Susterris Strait and extends for 11 km, as we can see in these panoramic video images.

The dam is located right where the Noguera Pallaresa valley narrowed and the waters of this reservoir cover the church of Sant Antoni de Susterris and a good part of the so-called Susterris encomienda.

It so happens that the Talarn reservoir is the first large reservoir built in Spain for hydroelectric purposes, although it is also used to regulate the flow of the river that supplies the Terradets reservoir. In this way, the flow for irrigation is controlled, through two irrigation ditches located on the sides of the reservoir. Although it also has recreational and tourist uses (with several bathing, sailing and fishing areas).

The construction of this reservoir began in 1913 by the company Barcelona Traction, Light and Power Company Limited, known as La Canadiane, since it was from Canada.
