The Madrid Environment Prosecutor's Office is investigating a man accused of killing a cat last March and seriously wounding another by shooting them with a 22-caliber pistol near a construction site in the Madrid district of Fuencarral-El Pardo.

It was an animal protector who informed the Madrid Municipal Police that on March 27 a shooter had murdered a cat from a colony in the area, sources from the local body reported to Efe on Tuesday.

The events were witnessed by one of those responsible for the work, who notified the protector.

When performing the necropsy on the animal, it was determined that it had died from the shot of a 22-caliber pistol, lightweight and hollow point, a type of bullet that expands upon impact with the target and is considered lethal.

Days later, on April 4, a municipal patrol in the area received an alert for similar events near the same construction site.

According to the testimonies of some workers, a driver had approached in his car and, after putting on a shooter's helmet, had shot a cat, which was seriously injured.

Thanks to the identification of the vehicle's license plate, the agents were able to locate the alleged perpetrator of the events, who they confiscated the weapon on a precautionary basis and summoned them to the premises of the Judicial Coordination station of the Municipal Police.

The person investigated had a valid weapons possession license and was listed as possessing a 22-caliber pistol.

The agents informed him that a crime against fauna and flora was attributed to him and they put the proceedings in the hands of the Environmental Prosecutor's Office.
