A romantic explosion with the Franz Schubert Filharmonia

With Symphony No. 4, Tchaikovsky stopped making music looking outward – showy and light – and started making music looking inward – intense and emotional. The premiere made an impact—including the pizzicato fragment of the third movement—but only one person knew exactly what the author wanted to express: his patron, Nadia von Meck, received a letter in which Tchaikovsky carefully recounted each passage of the piece. work: “Here is the force of destiny; here the joy of popular festivals; here is the heartbreaking energy that tells you that you can only count on yourself.” A brilliant and energetic symphony that nods to the resources of the symphonic poem.

The Franz Schubert Filharmonia invites conductor Krzysztof Urbański for the first time in its 2023-24 Concert Season, to perform the Fourth by Tchaikovsky, one of its reference composers, and with a symphony that begins and concludes with the motif of Destiny. "All life is a perpetual traffic between harsh reality and fleeting dreams of happiness," Tchaikovsky wrote of the first movement in one of his epistles to von Meck.

Sibelius composed a violin concerto so difficult to perform that it took years to come together. Little by little the soloists began to understand that it was not enough to overcome the technical difficulties of the third movement: delicacy and good taste were necessary. Korean violinist Soyoung Yoon will show us why she won the prestigious Wieniawsky Competition with her performance of this concerto.

Violinist Soyoung Yoon has received praise for her "meticulous... highly disciplined" (Gramophone) and "smooth" performances whose "technical perfection... is always put at the service of the music" (The Guardian). Winner of major violin competitions, Soyoung Yoon has earned the respect of the profession as a soloist and chamber musician of the highest caliber.

This program will be presented up to three times, on Friday, November 17 at eight in the afternoon at the Auditori Josep Carreras in Vila-seca, on Saturday, November 18, at eight in the afternoon at the Auditori Enric Granados in Lleida and the Sunday, November 19, at half past five in the afternoon, at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona.
