A pregnant woman and two men murdered after a Karol G concert

Last Sunday, tragedy occurred after the last concert of the Colombian singer Karol G in Guatemala, after a woman and two men were murdered outside the venue where the massive musical event took place.

The murder took place during the early hours of the morning in the vicinity of Explanada de Cayalá, Guatemala City, where the famous artist gave a concert; a few meters from the United States embassy in the Central American country.

According to local media reports, everything happened after the concert; in the early hours of Sunday on Bulevar Austríaco in zone 16 of Guatemala City. Karol G had just given his second consecutive concert at Explanada Cayalá, one of the most luxurious areas of the capital, after performing the day before.

In the parking lot, three people were arguing heatedly about their situation with a car, since supposedly two of them - identified as Gerson David Barrera and Ángel Estuardo Trujillo - had paid a third - who the police have already identified as Christian Aroldo Heinemann - to take care of their car while they went to the event. However, upon returning, they had apparently found it with broken glass.

After several minutes arguing, the alleged aggressor pulled out a firearm and shot two men after an argument. A stray bullet, however, hit a woman - identified as Diana Yasmin Chinchilla - who was pregnant and who was attending the artist's concert with her two other children, ages two and eleven.

The victim was heading home with the children, in the nearby neighborhood of Las Vacas, and had remained outside the venue listening to the artist's concert, on the public road. The children had to be treated by emergency services after seeing their mother die, as they suffered a nervous breakdown.

Sources from the Guatemalan National Civil Police reported that Heinemann, 33, was arrested early Monday morning. He has been taken to the Court Tower of Guatemala City, where he has already been brought to justice accused of the triple crime. The Police also seized a 9 millimeter caliber pistol, for which he did not have the relevant license.

The Minister of the Interior for Guatemala, Francisco Jiménez, commented on what happened and sent a message through his account on X.com (former Twitter), lamenting that "a night of joy was mourned by a direct attack." Jiménez stressed that, although the capture of the alleged perpetrator was "immediate" by the Police, "that does not take away the pain of the families," remembering the two little ones.

Guatemala recorded a total of 4,361 murders in 2023, 2 percent more than in 2022, according to official data from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF).
