A fugitive allegedly linked to the perpetrator of the jihadist attack committed in Belgium on October 16 has been arrested by the National Police in the Malaga town of Benahavís and has been imprisoned by court order.
The fugitive has an international arrest and surrender order (OEDE) issued by the Belgian authorities for the alleged crimes of drug trafficking, arms trafficking, money laundering and membership in a criminal organization.
At the time of his arrest he was carrying false documentation, as reported this Friday by the Police in a statement. Based on the information provided by the Belgian authorities, an investigation was launched into the possible relationship of the perpetrator of the attacks in that country with a person established in Spain.
The efforts made it possible to determine how both would be linked to criminal activities related to organized crime.
The agents arrested the fugitive in the Malaga town of Benahavís and carried out a search of his home in which they seized documentation, electronic devices and a significant amount of money.
The investigators, who are analyzing the effects of the intervention, are trying to determine the type of link that the now arrested man maintained with the perpetrator of the attacks.
This Friday, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the Central Court of Investigation of Guard, which has ordered his entry into prison.
The police operation has had the support of the National Intelligence Center (CNI), has been coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office of the National Court and directed by Central Court number 2.
