A fan has been in a coma for 18 days after an ultra aggression in Soria

A 44-year-old man from San Sebastián has been in a coma for 20 days, after receiving a brutal beating in Soria on May 27, in the run-up to a Numancia-Cornellá match. This man, Ion Aranburu, had traveled to the Castilian city together with another friend from Gipuzkoa with the aim of visiting a third person, a friend who lives in Catalonia and who had come there to watch the match. The attack occurred when a group of ultras sowed panic in the middle of the street and attacked Aranburu and another young man outside a bar.

As a result of the brutal attack, Aranburu suffered a skull fracture and another in the ear, so that he remains in the ICU of the Burgos Hospital in a "very serious" situation. This Thursday an act will be held in Donostia / San Sebastián to show solidarity with Aranburu and his relatives.

From the family environment and friends of the attacked, they point out that Aranburu and another friend went to Soria with the aim of meeting with a close friend from San Sebastian, a resident of Catalonia for years and a Cornellá fan.

The Catalan team was playing a momentous game that day in order to seal their permanence in the RFEF First Division, and their friend had encouraged them to go to Soria, as an intermediate meeting place. Aranburu and his travel companion ate on the way and around 5:00 p.m. they met with his friend.

In normal weather, with a good atmosphere among the fans, they decided to have a drink before the game, which would begin at 7:30 p.m. However, around 6:00 p.m., everything went wrong. A group of ultras linked to far-right groups broke into the area of José de Tudela street, where fans of Numancia and Cornellá shared the public space. Most of the fans took refuge in a hotel establishment. Ion Aranburu and another follower were not so lucky.

In the images recorded from a house, it can be seen how most of the fans took refuge inside a bar or in the entrance area; at the same time, you can see how Ion Aranburu lies on the ground. With the San Sebastian fan unconscious on the ground, the ultras continue looking for prey and manage to knock down a young man, who they kick on the ground among half a dozen people.

Given the seriousness of the injuries, Aranburu was transferred to the Burgos hospital, where he continues almost three weeks later.

Aranburu's family and friends have denounced that "he was the victim of an organized fascist attack, which has left him in a coma." They also demand that "everything that happened be clarified and that the perpetrators of this fascist attack be identified", while questioning the police action.

The friend who accompanied Aranburu that afternoon, Juanjo Zubiria, stressed in the newspaper Noticias de Gipuzkoa that his companion "did not face up" and that "the only thing he tried to do was run away". “He is the typical kid who sees a fight and goes the other way (…). What he likes to go to Anoeta with his two children. ”, He has indicated.

At the same time, Zubiria has denounced that there are no detainees when there are photographs and videos of the attack by the ultras, as well as of a meeting between ultras from Numancia and other teams that day. He also questions the scant impact that the news has had: "It seems very serious to me, you are debating between life and death and nobody says anything."
