A European Parliament mission will evaluate language immersion in Catalonia next week

A dozen MEPs will be part of the European Parliament mission that will visit Catalonia next week to evaluate the language immersion system. The visit will begin next Monday and will last until Wednesday. The MEPs will meet on the first day in Barcelona with the people who made the request to the European Parliament to start the investigation, as well as with families and teachers. The delegation will meet members of the judiciary on Tuesday and visit two educational centers in Baix Llobregat, one with full linguistic immersion and another in which 25% of classes are in Spanish for one of the school groups.

During the second day of the mission, the MEPs will also meet with associations, civil society and representatives of the Catalan authorities. The visit will close on Wednesday with a press conference at the European Parliament office in Barcelona, ​​in which the MEPs will evaluate the meetings.

The chair of the delegation will be Estonian liberal MEP Yana Toom. On behalf of the European People's Party, the German Peter Jahn and the Polish Jaroslaw Duda are part of the delegation, while from the European Conservatives and Reformists the Polish Kosma Zlotowski will visit Catalonia. Also participating in the mission are the French Virginie Joron from Identity and Democracy and the Italian Maria Angela Danzi, not registered in any group.

Accompanying members will be the president of the Petitions committee, the PP MEP Dolors Montserrat and the Balearic Rosa Estaràs, also from the PP. Accompanying them will also be PSOE member Cristina Maestre, Ciudadanos member Maite Pagaza, ERC MEP Diana Riba and Vox member Jorge Buxadé.
