A Barnasants against "the neofascist wave" with about 120 concerts

More feminism and more demands, also passing through Portugal and Peru, but at the same time continuing the task of territorial articulation through culture. More songs, in short, is what Barnasants proposes for the next edition, which was presented this Thursday. Pere Camps, director and alma mater of the festival, insisted on the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the carnation revolution in Portugal “when the reactionary and neo-fascist wave invades Europe, the result among others of the little democratic memory”, and that they will celebrate on April 13 with a collective show of its own production, El poble és qui mana, under the artistic direction of Névoa (Núria Piferrer) at the Joventut theater in l'Hospitalet, the same stage where this 28th edition will open, in This case with Les Kol·lontai, the group formed by the singer-songwriters Sílvia Comes, Meritxell Gené and Ivette Nadal, who return with a new proposal five years after being born at the proposal of the festival and which wants to be a “relentless feminist demand, without "ambiguities."

In fact, Laura de Agorreta Camps, who assumes the deputy directorship, recalled that more than 40% of the planned events are led by women, a percentage that has been growing over the years and they hope to reach half. Thus, this year, among many others, Clara Peya, Raquel Lúa, Escarteen Sisters, Kris Tena, Sandra Bautista, Liuba María Hevia, La Maria, Maio, Alidé Sans, Gemma Humet and Paula Valls will perform. It also includes the celebration of Women's Day, 8-M, at the Casinet d'Hostafrancs with a concert by Paula Domínguez, accessible in sign language with the interpreters Eva García Codorniu and Anna Griera.

Among the approximately 120 scheduled performances, there will also be space for the celebration of other special dates, such as the centenary of the death of Joan Salvat-Papasseit, with a show by the Valencian duo of Tomàs de los Santos and Elsa Tronchoni through songs and rhapsodies of the poet Pere Camps explained that this own production has been made as a result of an agreement with the Federation of Universities of Catalonia, so it will tour several spaces to achieve one of the objectives of Barnasants, "articulate the territory based on culture", because it wants to be a decentralized event, which is why there are different venues such as the aforementioned Teatro Joventut, the Harlem in Barcelona, La Cate de Figueres or the Ateneu Igualadí de la Classe Obrera, or the collaborations with Traditionalists that will be done in the CAT (Adolfo Osta, Carola Ortiz, VerdCel, Magalí Sare and Manel Fortià or Miquel Gil).

They will also celebrate musical anniversaries, such as the 20th career of Cesk Freixas (who recently announced that in 2025 he will take an indefinite musical break), the 30th of Marc Parrot, the 40th of Gabriel Sopeña or the 50th of Rafa Xambó, who this 2024 he will leave the stage and will do so with a show based on songs from poets such as Maria-Mercè Marçal, Vicent Andrés Estellés, Maria Josep Escrivà, Àngels Gregori or Teresa Pascual.

Other notable concerts are those by Rafa Pons, Alba Careta and Henrio – who recover lullabies from oral tradition within the Càntut project –, the historic Luar Na Lubre, Renaldo

This year the guest country will be Peru, and there will be concerts by Javier Lazo, Amaru Angoitia, Gadafi Núñez, Myriam Quiñones, Luz Maria Carriquiry, Omar Camino, Juliette Robles, Gabriel Tito Iglesias and Chabuca Negra, many of them in collaboration with Casa América.

This edition of the festival will have a triple closing with three consecutive concerts, on May 17, 18 and 18, by Gemma Humet and Toti Soler, Paco Ibáñez and Claudi Martí and Ismael Serrano.

Pere Camps wanted to insist that the festival has a plurinational vocation, because “diversity does not separate, but rather unites”, and “normality is not only that Álvarez sings here, but that singer-songwriters in Catalan perform in places like Segovia or Valladolid ", and that is why he directly asked the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, that "aid for festivals be linked to a percentage in the other languages of the Peninsula."
