A 56-year-old woman drowned on a Salou beach

A 56-year-old woman drowned this Saturday afternoon on Llevant beach in the town of Salou (Tarragonès), as reported by Civil Protection through a statement. The fatality, which is the sixth on Catalan beaches so far this summer season, has Spanish nationality.

The lady has been rescued from the water and transferred to the sand, where members of the Medical Emergencies System (SEM) have tried to revive her without success. At the time of the events, the lifeguard service was active and was waving the yellow flag on the beach, which recommends caution in the bathroom.

Three land units of the SEM, the Local Police, the Mossos d'Esquadra and Maritime Rescue have intervened in the event. The Civil Guard is the security body that has taken charge of the proceedings.

Civil Protection of the Generalitat de Catalunya has recalled the "importance of extreme precautions in swimming pools and beaches this summer" and has recalled that if any person detects someone in difficulty, they must notify the lifeguard service or 112. "It is recommended go to supervised beaches", they added.
