A 23-year-old girl dies when a tree falls on her in the center of Madrid when she was crossing a street with her parents

The strong wind, the protagonist today in the capital as the storm 'Ciarán' passes by, which resembles a grade 3 hurricane, is beginning to leave the first damage. A 23-year-old woman has died on Almagro Street, number 1, after a tree fell on this street in the Salamanca neighborhood. In the same incident, there have been five injuries, reports Emergencies Madrid. The deceased young woman was with her parents, who have been treated by Samur psychologists. Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida has approached the scene of the accident. The tree had a weight of 2,000 kilograms and has not withstood the storm.

"When Samur arrived, he couldn't do anything for her. It was a terrible accident," says José Ramón Santamaría, emergency spokesman for the Madrid City Council. Firefighters and police are trying to move the tree to rescue the deceased. Traffic has been paralyzed at the Alonso Martínez roundabout. This is the first victim left by this storm.

On the other hand, a large tree, more than 20 meters high, broke and fell on Embajadores Street, at number 173, south of the city, and crushed a car.

The driver and his four-year-old daughter were miraculously saved, since they had remained in the vehicle for a few minutes until they got out so the girl could go to school. The event took place around 8:20 in the morning.

The owner of the car, Federico, explained to Telemadrid that they were scared, but that afterwards he felt calmer because the event could have ended in tragedy. They heard how "the tree creaked," he noted. To which he added: "We have been saved by a miracle. Today we have been reborn."

The owner has commented that he has called his insurance and they will be responsible for repairing the damage to the car, which has been destroyed, but later it will have to be claimed from the consortium, as it is a meteorological incident. "I'll have to end up buying a new one," he said.

In fact, it is not the only incident in the capital, since the strong winds in Madrid have caused 607 interventions, of which in 124 the firefighters have had to intervene, between midnight and 1 p.m., reports Emergencies Madrid.
