The Civil Guard and officials from the Tax Agency have seized 530 kilograms of cocaine that arrived in Madrid camouflaged, as if it were fresh fruit.
Specifically, the shipment contained three pallets with 38 boxes of avocados, with a total weight of 2,268 net kilograms. In all the boxes there was one of the packages containing drugs.
The operation took place last Saturday, December 2, at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport.
According to the Civil Guard, this method, called lost hook or rip off, is used by traffickers to introduce large quantities of drugs at the airport of origin, without the knowledge of importing and exporting companies. Traffickers look for shipments of goods from legal import companies with a constant flow of shipments to go unnoticed by customs vigilantes.
Once the merchandise reaches the destination country, they have people who remove the merchandise before it is shipped to obtain a large amount of drugs without taking risks.
