The Local Police of Valencia has filed 798 complaints in the first days of the campaign to control bicycles and personal mobility vehicles. The campaign, which has the motto “You are the chassis”, aims to inform users of these vehicles of the rules they must follow and the obligation to only buy approved vehicles. The campaign began on January 30 in the information phase while, as of February 6, it entered the executive phase, that is, the fines phase.

Of the 798 complaints, 258 are for driving with helmets or headphones, 167 for driving in this type of vehicle without a protective helmet. There have also been 121 complaints for driving on the sidewalk, streets for pedestrians or walks, 43 for speeding, 53 for exceeding the technical characteristics of the VMP, 40 for talking on the cell phone and 17 for exceeding the number of people authorized in the vehicle. vehicle. In addition, 35 vehicles have been immobilized, one person has tested positive for alcohol and a second for drugs.

The Local Police have carried out 203 controls at the points of greatest accidents in the city. In the central zone alone, 59 controls have been carried out in the first week. In total, 1,989 personal mobility vehicles have been identified.

The Councilor for Mobility, Jesús Carbonell, stated that “we have carried out controls in different parts of the city. It is about informing users that they have a responsibility when driving, the responsibility to pay attention to traffic, not to talk on their cell phone or to circulate only in authorized areas, but also to make them understand that, in the event of an accident against a motor vehicle, are the weakest part. Prudence, therefore, is a value that they have to practice.”

Carbonell also recalled that “we must respect the speed limits and, especially, respect pedestrians. The sidewalk is a pedestrian space, it cannot be invaded by personal mobility vehicles. It is mandatory to always use the authorized lanes.”
