The Tour de France is uphill. In its sixth stage, the peloton is already putting on the gear of big climbs with a second stage in the Pyrenees and the first finish in high mountains, at the Cauterets station, where the favorites for the general classification will not be able to hide their cards.
First, the peloton, which will have started filming in Tarbes, will overcome Aspin and the mythical Tourmalet, whose summit is located 50 kilometers from the finish line of a stage of 144.9, short but extremely intense, with 3,750 meters of unevenness
Added to the difficulties of the gala round are those of the high mountain: temperature changes or little oxygen when the organisms cross the top of the Tourmalet above 2,000 meters of altitude, before descending to barely 500. A demanding effort of adaptation.
The fifth stage was marked by the blow on the leader's yellow jersey table, in a spectacular day in which the defending champion, Jonas Vingegaard, endorsed Tadej Pogacar by 1:04 minutes. The victory went to the Australian Jai Hindley (Bora Hansgrohe), winner of the 2022 Giro.
Vingegaard does not throw bells and whistles after his exhibition: "I just felt good and decided to attack. I have taken a good time from Tadej Pogačar and other rivals, but I know Tadej, he is a rider who never gives up and we are going to have a fight until Paris", he said upon arrival at the finish line.
The sixth stage of the 2023 Tour de France will cover 144.9 kilometers between Tarbes and Cauteres-Cambasque, in addition to crossing the top of Tourmalet in the middle of the route.
