The Giro d'Italia softens its route for 2024

The 2024 Giro will start in Turin on May 4, the 75th anniversary of the Torino tragedy, and will end in Rome on the 26th. The 'Corsa Rosa', which will have 3,162.2 km in total with 42 mountain passes and 2 time trial days , presents an ideal route for some posh cyclist to also want to double with the Tour.

The general route, although it offers different sections for certain abilities and deficiencies of the cyclists and different alternatives, may be somewhat 'light', especially with regard to the mountains.

The organization has opted for a lighter half-mountain with fewer giants, in view of the recent reductions and modifications of the legendary mountain passes. Nothing of Zoncolan, Mortirolo, Gavia, Giau and other historical names associated with great exploits of the Corsa Rosa, only a Stelvio remains that for the 107th edition stands as the Cima Coppi, the highest mountain pass. Of course, its passage is located 150 km from the finish line.

Even without knowing the route of the Tour, which will be shown at the end of October in Paris, it is said that the organizers have modified the route, adding lighter sections, so that double participation is not impossible, in the Giro and in the Tour. Actually, the feat of being victorious in the same year of these two grand tours has not been achieved since 1998, when Marco Pantani achieved it.
