The ISMA (International Six Meter Association) has decided to grant the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo the holding of the European 6 Meter Championship between September 27 and October 5, 2024, as made public in a press release by the club itself. club. In the note itself they highlight the success of the latest competitions organized in the Galician town, which has made it possible for the European competition to return to Spain this year.
“It is a great pride that the world fleet and class legislators have thought about Sanxenxo to repeat the success of 2021 and 2022,” said Pedro Campos, president of the RCNS. “It is a great challenge for the club, for Sanxenxo and for Galicia to try to repeat what we did in 2021, this time with only eight months of preparation, but in Spain we have always had the ability to demonstrate the talent and dedication to prepare and execute large events.”
Regarding the competition, around 40 teams are expected to arrive in the town of Pontevedra, which translates into around 500 people including sailors and team members. The visit of King Emeritus Don Juan Carlos I is expected, since this type of sailing regatta is the one in which he usually competes aboard his "rascal."
