PSG and Galtier agree on the departure of the French coach

Paris Saint-Germain and Christophe Galtier have reached an agreement this Wednesday on the coach's departure conditions, still with a one-year contract. This is the first time that a manager has spent just one season at the helm of the French club since the arrival of Qatar Sports Investments in 2011.

Rumors of the departure of the French strategist come from the end of the season and now the negotiations have ended between both parties so that Galtier immediately leaves the bench of the team from the French capital. The club has already made it official with a statement in which they thank the coach and his coaching staff.

"All of Paris Saint-Germain thanks Christophe Galtier, as well as his assistants Thierry Oleksiak and João Sacramento, for the professionalism and commitment shown throughout the season, and wishes them the best for the rest of their careers." dictates the statement.

The French sports press had reported in recent days that the coach's compensation would be around six million euros, a figure that would be added to the close to ten million that PSG had to pay just a year ago to dismiss Mauricio Pochettino.

PSG's season with Galtier was disappointing for the French leadership, which was not satisfied with winning the league title. Instead, he focused on failures in the League Cup and the Champions League, where the team lost in the round of 16 in both competitions.

The first part of the season was not bad, however, after the World Cup the team collapsed and came to add ten defeats in 2023. The team even came close to losing the league, and was champion with only one point advantage over Lens.

In addition, scandals off the pitch were added to everything sporting. Galtier received accusations of racism and Islamophobia by his former Nice team, which earned him police custody the week before, and he will face a trial for moral harassment and discrimination in December.

The investigation was opened last April when an email from the 2021-2022 season was leaked in which the then Nice coach would have said that his club was a "scum team" where "there are only blacks" and that "Half the team goes to the mosque on Fridays." Galtier has come out to deny these facts on numerous occasions.

With this decision, the era of the coach at the helm of PSG will come to an end sooner than expected. The capital team hired him with the hope of having a coach away from the spotlight, but with experience in the French league after his title with Lille in 2021 and who would focus on discipline to take the project to the next level.

Now the Parisian club has its coaching position available and the Spanish Luis Enrique Martínez is the main candidate to land in Paris, although there is still nothing concrete between the parties.
