NEC Nijmegen player Bas Dost collapsed on the pitch of the AFAS Stadion in Alkmaar in the 90th minute of his team's match against AZ, on matchday ten of the Netherlands League.
The player, in the center of the field, collapsed and fainted, unconscious, far from where the ball was in play. The game stopped and the medical assistants burst onto the grass where he was treated while his teammates surrounded him to prevent the image from being televised.
The footballer could be revived. He left the field of play on a stretcher and raised his arm to show that he had recovered while the entire stadium stands chanted his name. The match was definitively suspended.
Bas Dost, who had scored his team's first goal and assisted on the second, scored by Magnus Mattsson for NEC's victory in Alkmaar, showed signs of regaining consciousness by raising his thumb.
"The player is conscious and has been taken off the field of play," reported his club, the NEC Nijmegen, which reported that the footballer was taken to hospital.
