Pedro Acosta and Augusto Fernández will be the Gas Gas pilots in 2024

The Spaniards Augusto Fernández, Moto2 world champion in 2022, and Pedro Acosta, current leader of the intermediate displacement World Championship, will be the riders of the Gas Gas MotoGP team for the 2024 season.

With this move decided by KTM - the parent company of Gas Gas -, Pol Espargaró will foreseeably be left without a motorcycle in the Austrians' satellite team.

The Austrian firm intended to increase its presence on the 2024 grid (now with two motorcycles from the official Red Bull KTM and two from the Gas Gas), but given the refusal of Dorna Sports to expand the places, KTM has chosen to give priority to its great bet, Pedro Acosta, and move the chairs.

Augusto Fernández will continue in the Gas Gas structure for another year. The Mallorcan, debutant this year in MotoGP, has scored points in 12 of the 14 grands prix held this year.

Pedro Acosta will be the new addition to Gas Gas, at only 19 years old. The Murcian, who was Moto3 champion in 2021, is the current leader of Moto2 in his second year in the intermediate category, with more than 50 points ahead. So the Tiburón de Mazarrón has the skill, the capacity and the talent to move up to MotoGP now.

On the other hand, the Catalan pilot Pol Espargaro will leave his mount at Gas Gas to become, predictably, reserve pilot for the satellite structure. A role comparable to that of Dani Pedrosa in the official KTM.

Gas Gas has expressed its gratitude to Pol Espargaró for his great commitment and experience since he arrived at Pierer Mobility Group in MotoGP until his last day as main rider.

"I want to thank Pol for everything he has done and everything he continues to do for us. This boy is super tough and super determined and that is why we want to have him as an important part of our structure," said Pit Bierer, director of Gas Gas Motorsport.
