Marc Gasol has called a press conference at 6 p.m. this Wednesday at the Cinema Texas (Barcelona) to talk about his immediate future. Everything seems to indicate two possible exits for the 38-year-old Catalan player: a return to the courts or his definitive retirement.
The unknowns about the next plans of the president and Básquet Girona player have been fueled this morning due to an enigmatic video that Gasol has published on his social networks. The title of the audiovisual piece: "And now what?"
In the video, a dialogue with the center is heard while images related to the world of basketball such as locker rooms or press rooms are shown. "We have been considering Marc Gasol's opinion as president. I don't know if the player knows what his future will be," they ask him. "What I know for sure is that I won't start the season. I'm having a hard time with this decision. When you face it, it's not easy," Gasol responds.
Just a week ago, the center already expressed himself about his next plans in basketball. "My future as a player? At the end of the month I will tell you what I plan to do," he commented at a press conference.
Marc Gasol began a new stage in 2021 by leaving the NBA and joining Bàsquet Girona (a team he founded in 2014). In 2022 he served as president and player at the same time. However, in 2023 he decided not to start the 23-24 season, although he did not rule out playing later.
Thus, Gasol is currently at an intermediate point: he is not part of the Girona team, but he has not officially retired either. Tomorrow's press conference should clarify how he will continue his career.
