Luis Enrique: "There are always vermin and vultures taking advantage of their second glory"

Luis Enrique Martínez, former national coach, has withdrawn from the spotlight once the World Cup in Qatar concluded. The Asturian coach took time for his "other life" in which he says he enjoys as much as a coach. However, this Wednesday he decided to break his silence to give an interview to SER Deportivos Gijón in which he talked about his time with the national team and what his future could be on the bench.

The former national coach explained that when he is not working he does not usually give too many interviews. “I have many requests for interviews and they are always interesting, from the media and journalists who are totally serious and who want to know a little more about my opinion. But I am quite passionate when I work and, when I finish working, I get away from the madding crowd and do the things I like. With such good luck from yesterday what happens happens…”

He has also confessed that since the World Cup and the Cape Epic ended, “I don't use social networks. I don't look at the Spanish press or social media… I only read the English press. When you're immersed in professional soccer, you can't like everyone or control what is said about you. I dedicate myself to face everything with intensity. And since I don't care what they say, I enjoy it in my own way”.

He also wanted to explain what his day-to-day life is like as a technician, in which he has to manage many variables that are very important. “When you are the coach you control all the information, much more than journalists or fans. You have to go making decisions and accept the results again. Based on the results, you will have one deal or another. I have this very assimilated, it does not take away my sleep. I know the things I have to do and how I have to do them,” he explained.

In addition, he assured that he does not regret his journey in La Roja and acknowledged having made mistakes: “The vermin and the vultures, taking advantage of their second of glory, I don't care. I feel proud of my time as a coach. I made a lot of mistakes, it would just be missing, but I made decisions and I was super proud. I am not interested in plan A or plan B debates, they are free, made by people with a brutal lack of information, ”he criticized.

Luis Enrique pointed out that he felt very loved as the national coach: “Thanks to the streaming sessions during the World Cup, which was a bomb that exploded during that moment, we were able to receive the love of the fans, both the players and me. What the media say is one thing and reality is another, and the streamings served to unite players and fans. It was a very positive experiment.”

“Twitch was an experiment that went the way it did and was very positive. I don't know if I'll be back, I don't think so. I like more to enjoy these moments in which you are not part of today. I really enjoy being a coach, but I also enjoy my life outside of football. I don't know when I will return to training, it will depend on whether I have interesting offers. But I enjoy both of my lives."

“I have not had any offer at the team level to date, but I do know of the interest of any team. I am not going to give the name, but I do not rule out coaching any team, ”and he adds that it is not about Brazil. “I don't think it's the coach profile for a team like the Brazilian. No one from Brazil has called me. You already know that the media goes so fast that the rumor becomes news. I love quality players, I always choose them. But I don't know if I would be the best for a team of that level."

Finally, if he made it clear that he would like to train in the Premier: “I have a special attraction for England, I would like to go to England to work. I also follow the big teams in Spain. The English one is an interesting league. Clearly, I am influenced because I would like to work there. But I am not going to deceive you, I am not going to go to any team. I would like to go to a team that can do important things. And there is a lot of world-class coach who wants to go to the Premier. So I'm under no illusions. But that does not mean that I will not train in Spain ”, he concluded.
