Italy will broadcast the referees' conversations with the VAR

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC), the Italian Referees Association (AIA) and DAZN announced this Saturday the agreement by which, in collaboration with Serie A, they will retransmit the VAR audios with the field referees starting this Sunday 24th September.

The agreement, as confirmed by DAZN in a statement, provides for the broadcast of a new television program every Sunday, as soon as the day ends, called 'Open VAR', in which, together with a different guest each week, the AIA will discuss the most relevant refereeing episodes including the conversations between VAR and field referees, as well as the corresponding images, to understand the decisions and weigh their success or error.

This Sunday this format will debut and the first representative of the AIA who will come to comment on the refereeing episodes will be the designator of the Italian judges, the former international referee Gianluca Rocchi.

"We are facing an important turning point in the way of communicating football, with 'OPEN VAR' we want to contribute to creating a renewed sports culture in our country, a deep knowledge of the rules of the game most loved by Italians and to make known the world of refereeing," declared FIGC President Gabriele Gravina.

"We are delighted to be the first, in the history of Italian football and beyond, to show VAR decisions exclusively on our application through images and, above all, audio. The aim of this innovative and unprecedented partnership together with the FIGC and the AIA, and thanks to the collaboration of Lega Serie A, is to offer all fans an even more exciting experience of Italian football," said Stefano Azzi, CEO of DAZN Italia.

"Technology increasingly offers important support to referees in the management of matches and, at the same time, allows us to respond to an increasingly demanding demand, also in terms of transparency, from the millions of spectators of sport. most popular in the world," commented Lorenzo Casini, president of Serie A.
