Aldama misses Grizzlies debut due to sprained ankle

Santi Aldama will not debut with the Memphis Grizzlies. The Western Conference team has confirmed the withdrawal of the Spanish player due to a sprained ankle and as a consequence he will not be in his team's premiere this Thursday against the New Orleans Pelicans for the new season. However, the Memphis franchise has detailed that the power forward's injury is minor and that they will evaluate his evolution day by day.

Aldama thus joins a list of Grizzlies casualties that includes Brandon Clarke, the suspended Ja Morant and Steven Adams who was injured in January, will have to undergo surgery and will miss the entire season. Precisely, the New Zealand center's injury opened the doors to seeing the Spanish basketball player with greater prominence in Taylor Jenkins' team, but Aldama's recent injury leaves no room for this possibility in the short term.

The physical discomfort of the Grizzlies' '7' comes a day after his renewal with the Tennessee team was made official. The Grizzlies have extended the contract of Santi Aldama, 22, until the 2024-25 season and have secured the services of the Canarian power forward for one more season: the Spaniard's third in the North American league. The 2.13 meter player will receive 3.9 million dollars, after expanding his relationship with the American team.

The NBA season started this morning from Tuesday to Wednesday in which both the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors have given away the first games of the 2023-24 campaign. Neither Steve Kerr's nor Darvin Ham's have been able to beat the Denver Nuggets (107-119) and the Phoenix Suns (108-104), respectively.

The highlight of the day was the 32 points by American guard Devin Booker, leader of Arizona, and the first triple-double of the course for Nikola Jokic. For their part, Stephen Curry and Lebron James scored 21 and 27 points with their teams.
