Khachanov did the same with his compatriot Andrey Rublev, whom he beat 7-6 (8) and 6-4, qualifying for the first time in his career for the quarterfinals of a tournament of this category on clay.
Alcaraz arrives at the duel after chaining eight consecutive victories on clay.
