Albert Soler, former Secretary of State for Sports, assumes the direction of Metropolitan-Sports Club

The Catalan executive, with a wide and extensive career in the world of sports management, will be in charge of consolidating the leading group in the premium fitness sector in Spain, which currently has 20 Clubs and which by 2024 foresees a plan of expansion with four new openings.

Albert Soler (Barcelona, 1966) had been Secretary of State for Sports and president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD) in 2011 and general director of Sports on two occasions, between 2008 and 2011, and between 2021 and 2023. He had also been an executive at Fútbol Club Barcelona, which he joined in 2014 as director of Institutional Relations, and in 2015 as director of Professional Sports, being the top executive responsible for the professional sections of the entity.

Albert Soler's new responsibility was communicated internally at Metropolitan at the end of 2023. “We want to elevate the brand and the premium concept of Metropolitan, where sport is associated with a quality way of life in health, leisure and well-being. We will work to promote the club concept, above the gym and the classic sports center,” explains Albert Soler about his role.

Metropolitan currently has 1,200 employees and 10 Clubs owned. It plans to invest 23 million euros in 2024 in the expansion plan and renovations of its centers.

The chain's last opening was in Sant Just Desvern (Barcelona), a comprehensive health and well-being center located in the Hesperia Sant Just Hotel. In addition to the 19 centers distributed throughout Spanish territory, Metropolitan also has another in Nice (France).
