Vote by mail Basque elections 2024: today is the last day to request it

On April 21, the regional elections to the Basque Parliament will be held and voters who wish to vote by mail in said elections can still request until today the certificate of their registration in the Electoral Census, online or in person at any Post Office of Spain to exercise their right to vote.

There are three groups of people who can request to vote by mail. Firstly, those who reside in Euskadi but wish to vote by mail for any reason.

Secondly, those who are registered in the Basque Country but temporarily reside outside the autonomous community, either in other parts of Spain or abroad for temporary reasons. This group includes citizens who are studying abroad, who have international scholarships or who are working temporarily.

Finally, those who permanently reside abroad but have the right to vote in these elections (known as CERA voters, the census of resident people who are called absent). CERA voters who are temporarily in Spain during the electoral process will not be able to vote in person at the polls, they will only be able to do so by mail.

Today is the last day to request the certificate of registration in the Electoral Census of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country

Obtaining this certificate is an essential requirement to be able to cast a vote by correspondence and can be requested electronically through the website www.correos.es or in person at any Post Office.

Correos will deliver the applications received to the Provincial Delegations of the Electoral Census Office in the Basque Country, who will send the applicants, as of April 1, 2024, the necessary documentation so that they can vote by mail. Voters will receive it at the address they indicate in the application, which does not have to coincide with their usual address.

Once you have received the documentation and prepared the envelope with the vote, simply go to a post office and send the envelope, without the need for postage, personally by certified and express mail. If you cannot attend in person, another person can be authorized to deliver it, for which it will be necessary to sign the authorization, which must be accompanied by a photocopy of the voter's ID and passport and the ID or passport of the authorized person. The last day to send it is April 17.

CERA voters who reside abroad should have already received (until March 31) at their registration address abroad and by certified mail the documentation to be able to go to vote, without the need to request it previously. In addition, the ballots can be downloaded from the website enabled by the Basque government. In your case, the deadline to send the vote by mail ends on April 16, and the envelope must be sent personally and by mail, certified if possible, to the consular office or consular section.

CERA voters who are temporarily in Spain during the electoral process may also request a vote by mail until today at any Post Office office in Spain, and the deadline to cast their vote will also be April 17.

Finally, in the case of people who are temporarily abroad (ERTA vote), in order to vote from abroad they should have already registered at their consular office as non-residents and have requested electoral documentation, since the deadline for both issues concluded on March 23. Once the documentation has been received from the Provincial Delegation of the Electoral Census Office, voters may send their vote by certified postal mail to the corresponding polling station in Spain, no later than April 17, 2024, following the instructions contained in the information sheet received.
