These are the streets of Madrid that will be closed due to possible protests during the investiture of Pedro Sánchez

Madrid prepares for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez. The Ministry of the Interior is finalizing an extensive security device around the Congress of Deputies in response to protests that could occur this Wednesday and Thursday during the investiture session of Pedro Sánchez as President of the Government. It is foreseeable that the protests by right-wing ultra groups will change location and move to the surroundings of the Lower House. Last week there were already attempts to get there from Ferraz Street, headquarters of the PSOE.

Although the number of agents that will increase the police deployment has not been definitively finalized, police sources point out that the device will be similar to those designed in 2012 for the "Surround the Congress" protests, promoted by the 25S Coordinator.

In fact, and with the expectation that the demonstrations that have been taking place for 12 days around the PSOE headquarters, on Ferraz Street, will move this Wednesday to Congress for the investiture session, the National Police has already increased since yesterday security around the Lower House.

Specifically, pedestrian circulation has been restricted in the section of Carrera de San Jerónimo that faces the main façade of the Congress, between Cedaceros Street and Plaza de Neptuno, as well as in the back of the building, in the section on Zorrilla Street, which runs between Cedaceros Street and Paseo del Prado.

At the beginning and end of the points that are restricted there are fences with a police presence to prevent the passage of pedestrians, except for those who work or live in the area or go to businesses located on those streets.

On the other hand, vehicle traffic runs normally on the aforementioned sections.

In addition, there are many other fences piled up around Congress in case it is necessary to use them in improvised protests, and security has been reinforced with several Police vans in the area.
