The woman who cut off her boyfriend's penis accepts seven years in prison

The accused, Tanya, 38 years old, cut her partner's penis with a kitchen knife. It was May 31, 2021 in a bar in Sant Andreu de la Barca where they both worked. The woman acted treacherously after convincing the man to cover his eyes to perform fellatio while hiding the knife in his pocket.

Yesterday, the accused acknowledged the facts before the court of section 20 of the Barcelona Court and accepted a sentence of seven years in prison after reaching an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office and the lawyer of the mutilated person. In addition, he agreed to pay 250,000 euros in terms of civil liability.

The woman, who is free after spending two years in pre-trial detention, explained that before the events happened "she was not well" and had been diagnosed with severe depressive syndrome. She had been dating Abdul for years, who in addition to her partner was also her boss. She had become pregnant by him on two occasions, but had an abortion in a mutual decision. Theirs was an extramarital affair. The 50-year-old man was married to another woman who lived in Bangladesh with whom he had children. At the time of the events, Abdul had a ticket to return to his country to visit his wife. Taking advantage of the fact that the man was blindfolded, the woman took out the knife and cut his penis almost completely, 2 cm from the base. "I am very sorry, at that time I was not well", explained the woman during the trial using the right to the last word. According to the experts who testified during the hearing, Tanya presented a picture of anxiety and suicidal thoughts.

In addition to the aesthetic and functional damage – Abdul can no longer maintain relationships – that the assault has caused him, he has lost his main source of income. The man ran two bars in Sant Andreu de la Barca, El Sibarita de la Barca and el Pirata, with which he had an income of between 2,000 and 3,000 euros. He now lives with a relative and works part-time in a supermarket where he earns 650 euros. When the woman insisted on having sex, Abdul turned off the bar's video surveillance cameras to keep her privacy healthy and safe. After the assault, and while trying to stop the bleeding, the man tried to flee the premises but the woman got in his way. It was at that moment that he turned on the cameras to capture how his attacker would not let him out. Those images before and after the events, together with the account that Abdul gave, were decisive for Tanya's arrest. At first, she said that her boss had sexually assaulted her, ignoring that they both lived together and were a couple. Since then, Abdul has suffered serious dysfunctions in the performance of his daily activities and is awaiting the implantation of a prosthesis.

The Prosecutor's Office accepted an agreement with the accused and with the private prosecution and decided to reduce the sentence of ten years in prison, which it requested at the beginning, to another one of seven years. Before the trial, the public ministry requested a sentence for Tanya for the crime of genital mutilation but at the end of the hearing he changed his mind. "The crime of genital mutilation was introduced into the Penal Code to punish female genital mutilation", reasoned the prosecutor. So, he finally formulated the accusation based on a crime of aggravated injury that carries the same penalty, considering that the injuries were to a vital organ.
