The unions deny that the police contingent in Alt Maresme has been reinforced

Two Mossos d'Esquadra unions, SAP Fepol and SME Fepol, have issued a statement denying the statements of the Minister of the Interior, Joan Ignasi Elena, in which he stated that the Pineda de Mar police station would have more agents. They claim that the ABP of Arenys de Mar (Maresme) has the same effectives

Once the municipalities of Alt Maresme publicly showed their rejection of the lack of Mossos d'Esquadra troops in their district and the mayors of Junts of the region related their problem to multiple recidivism, the Department of the Interior, at the discretion of the unions "intended to close the controversy by announcing that the Pineda police station had been reinforced with 18 more officers."

In this regard, the Autonomous Police Union (SAP-FEPOL) and the Squad Police Union (SME-FEPOL) state that the police stations of the Basic Police Area of Alt Maresme (Arenys de Mar and Pineda) have not had any increase in staff, as announced by the Minister of the Interior, Joan Ignasi Elena, and "therefore they continue to suffer negative consequences".

The unions themselves assure that after the pertinent consultations and since the demands of the respective municipalities were made public, "the Maresme police stations remain in the same situation" and therefore, no type of action has yet been taken that would have allowed increase the number of troops in these destinations. Along these lines, La Vanguardia has already reported that the 190 troops that Elena cited, already with the reinforcement, are the same as two years ago.

To this end, from the SAP and from the SME they claim to not know with what data the Department has justified itself to announce the issues that, both last December and on January 16, were made public by the media.

Both unions agree with the Department that multiple recidivism is not addressed solely from a police perspective and it is necessary to address it from an absolutely transversal perspective. However, the police force "continues to suffer the serious consequences of a long period in which public investment in security has been completely insufficient."

For all these reasons, they demand urgent measures, especially when the citizen security and investigation units of the Arenys and Pineda Police Stations "have been making continuous efforts for too long to be able to guarantee the public security of the territory" and urge the Government of the Generalitat to "continue looking the other way for longer" and therefore it is essential to address the problem, since "the one who cannot suffer its negative consequences any longer is the citizens themselves."
